Kindergarten Registration Portal Open January 13-24, 2025

Kindergarten Registration Portal Open January 13-24, 2025
Alexander Wolff

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Kindergarten registration for the Pelham Class of 2038 can now be completed using our Infinite Campus Online Registration Portal. This registration system allows parents/guardians to enter and upload registration documents directly from our website. In accordance with the Board of Education Policy, children residing in the Pelham Union Free School District are eligible to attend kindergarten in September 2025 if they will be 5 years old on or before December 31, 2025.

Residency is established by a child's physical presence as an inhabitant within the Pelham Union Free School District and the intent to reside in the district.

Please access the District's Kindergarten Registration website by visiting www.pelhamschools.org and clicking Kindergarten/New Student Registration under the Parents & Community tab. You will find access to the portal and the necessary documents and information. Please note that some documents will need to be notarized. Additionally, all new incoming students must register, even if they have siblings already attending the Pelham Schools.

If you have a child that is currently receiving services (IEP, IESP, IFSP or 504) and is already in our system, you will receive a separate email with instructions on how to register your child for kindergarten.

The Kindergarten Registration Portal will be open for the 2025-26 school year from January 13, 2025 through January 24, 2025.

Enrollment in one of our four elementary schools (Colonial, Hutchinson, Prospect Hill, and Siwanoy) is determined by the neighborhood in which you reside. If you do not know which elementary school serves your neighborhood, you should refer to our map located on our website. You can also call the District Registrar at (914) 738-3434 x 1211 or email registrar@pelhamschools.org.

Please review the below letter from our nursing team for important medical requirements for school attendance.

Spring Orientation / Screening

After registration, our instructional staff will be available to discuss the kindergarten program before the end of this school year. You and your child will be invited, by appointment, to visit your designated school. The kindergarten teachers will spend some time with your child observing his/her interactions and completing a preliminary screening.

On behalf of the Pelham Union Free School District, please accept our warmest welcome! I wish you and your child every success in the years ahead.

Sincerely,

Claire Comerford

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning

Kindergarten Orientation Health Letter

The School Nurses of our district along with the District Medical Director, Dr. Alain LeGuillou,  are committed to supporting the overall health and wellness of all students so they are safe, happy and ready to learn.  By maintaining open communication with us, you help ensure that we can provide the best possible care when it’s needed. Please review the following information from the health offices:

(1) EMERGENCY CARD/CONTACT INFORMATION

Emergency contact information is collected when you register your child for school. The information you provide is very important and enables us to reach someone quickly in the event your child is sick or injured.  It is important to contact the school to update your emergency contact information if anything ever changes, such as phone numbers or people who should be contacted in the event of an emergency.

(2) PHYSICAL EXAM

A current physical exam is required for each child entering kindergarten. It must be dated within one calendar year of the first day of school and should be sent to the school nurse. NY State requires that physicians complete the NYS Health Certificate/Appraisal for us to accept the physical exam.

(3) IMMUNIZATIONS

NYS law requires all students to be immunized against polio, mumps, measles, rubella, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, and varicella (chicken pox). It is important that the school nurse has documentation of all the immunizations your child has received. Please consult with your child’s physician to be sure that your child has all the required immunizations. All new students must present a record of immunization signed by a health care provider within 14 days of entering school. If this information is not provided your child may be excluded from school unless there is a documented medical exemption (which needs to be reviewed annually), as pursuant to the laws of New York State.

if the 3rd dose given at 4 years of age or older

Parents and guardians of all children who do not have their required immunizations are encouraged to have them receive the first dose as soon as possible. Serologic evidence (bloodwork) is acceptable for polio, MMR, Hepatitis B, and Varicella. Any time your child has new immunizations, please bring a copy of documentation to the school nurse to update your child’s record.

(4) SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTIONS IN SCHOOL - EPI-PEN and BENADRYL

Students come to school with diverse health conditions, including allergic reactions, which can be serious and even life threatening. Symptoms of such a reaction include generalized hives, welts, itching, swelling, wheezing or breathing problems. In accordance with approval of the school physician, the school nurse is qualified to administer EpiPen and/or an antihistamine. However, no medication may be dispensed by school personnel without written parental permission. (see below under medications). As a reminder, due to the high incidence of nut allergies in our district, all of our elementary schools are nut-free facilities.

(5) MEDICATIONS

According to New York State law, the school nurse is not permitted to diagnose. If it is necessary for your child to take prescription or over-the-counter medications during the school day, the nurse must have:

a) A written order from your health care provider stating the name of the medication, dosage and time to be given (form online.)

b) The medication in the original labeled container and handed directly to

     the nurse.

c) Written permission from the child’s parent to administer the medication.

d) All medications must be kept in the Nurse’s office.
